FIRST XI FALL SHORT

With the season inching closer to completion every game is taking on new importance and significance. For the First XI the trip to Beaumaris was a match they needed to win, sitting just 3 points away from the relegation zone. Losing the toss and bowling the hosts were able to amass 9/218 off their 80 overs. Luke Davis was the best of the bowlers with 3/41 while Nick Serrano chipped in with 2/27. The run chase got off to a bad start with both openers gone early. From there on all batsmen got starts with no one able to grab the match by the throat and turn it in St.Bernards favor. A good sing for the club though that 3 youngsters Davey, P.O'Connell and J.Riley all had an impact.
The 2nd  XI were looking to erase their heartbreaking loss the week before by registering a win and getting their season back on track at home against Beaumaris. Bowling first the hosts ran through their South side counterparts for 121, with all bowlers contributing- Gay, Turner, Raffle and K.O'Connell all taking two wickets each. the chase got off to a shaky start late on day one as the hosts fell to 3/30 before and then 7/97 early on day two before Tim Raffle and Brad Cooper steered the ship home safely and Bernards were eventually bowled out for 208 after a 28(14) cameo from Alex Turner.
The 3rd XI were up against rivals Altona North and batting first were bowled out for 148, with skipper Brendan Davey top scoring with 45 while Jeremy Sullivan continued his good form with a 32. Brendans boys were well and truly up against it when Altona were 5/123 requiring only 25 for victory until young spinner Jarrod Cowan turned the match along with Tom Gleeson to pull off a famous 3rd XI victory - early similar to the semi final a few years ago, this time Bernard's coming out on top .
The 4th XI lead by Giles Craig were at home to Yarraville Club. Losing the toss and being sent in Bernards were in trouble early, losing both openers for the score of 13 until some middle order resistance from Michael DiPaolo(31), Captain Giles(23), and youngster Max Jaggard(33) to get the score to 3-109 before the tail collapsed and the dogs were dismissed for 157. In response the visitors amassed 9/223 off their 72 overs.
