ROUND 5 WRAP

Round 5 delivered some interesting results for our club – with one round (two for the 1sts) before Christmas, 2 out of the 4 senior sides are in the top 4 and could be in by Christmas with some positive results.

Senior Division First Eleven

SBOCCC made 182 with captain Craig Osborne and VC Chris Spinella both making half centuries. Unfortunately Greenvale went past us 9 wickets down for a narrow loss. Craig Osborne took 4/33 with Tristan Kassis and Romain Grenville taking 2 each. The firsts are now 2 wins / 2 losses with a very important next two weekends with 1 x 2 day game and a 1 x one day this Sunday versus Keilor.

Senior Seconds.
SBOCCC chased down 151 runs made by Greenvale with James Davey carrying his bat on the way to 138 NOT OUT – well done James. Good support from Luke Marinelli with the bat whilst Chris Davis look near career best figures last week with 6 / 42.

Senior Thirds.
SBOCCC chased down Seddons’ 9/183 finishing at 3 / 375 with Jason Bourke 178 Justin Cluer making 71, Trav Carrick 60 and Max Jaggard 54* - well done to this team who are improving each week and defeating Seddon who were previously on top of the ladder. Great bowling and fielding display last week.

MILO CRICKET UNDERWAY AT STBERNARDS

With some great work done by Brendan Davey and Duncan Hefter our Milo junior cricket program started on Friday 9th at the Home of Cricket.

27 junior players have signed up to learn the basics of our great game.

The milo program will run on the same nights as our under 10 games so Friday nights will be a busy place.

Well done to Brendan and Duncan.

ALEX TURNER SNARES 7 WICKETS

Second XI opening bowler Alex Turner produced one significant highlight in what was a fairly dark and miserable round for the Snowdogs, taking an incredible 7/43 off 28 overs in the round 3 match against Airport West/St.Christophers.

Alex broke into the 2nd XI last season after showing promise in the lower XI's over the past few seasons and has this season cemented himself a spot as one of the lead bowlers in the side. Opening the day with ball in hand he bowled 21 overs straight as the Snowdogs tried to defend their 1st innings score of 120. The incredible workman-like spell of bowling included 7 maidens as he claimed the wicket of 4 of the top 5 Airport West batsmen.

A fantastic effort by a young player with plenty of promise, who will hopefully have higher honours bestowed upon him in the not to distant future.

Well done Turner!

SNOWDOGS FINISH ROUND THREE 0-4

Oval one is back after a successful renovation of the wicket table, one positive after a poor round 3 for the Snowdogs with all four teams failing to bring home the chocolates.

The First XI playing at home for the 2nd match in a row failed to chase down 287 for victory after they at one stage had the visiting Airport West side 6/90. Romain Grenville (78), Craig Osborne(26), Tristan Kassis(26), Jordan Mills(33) and Chris Spinella(44) all got a start in the Snowdogs chase, but it wasn't enough as they fell 27 runs short.

The Sinclair Johansen led 2nd XI travelled around the corner to Airport West for their local grudge match and were only able to get 120runs on the board on day one with Matt Bergin(42) and Ivan Jurcic(26) the only batsmen to get a start. The hosts were able to chase down the small target with little trouble, although they did lose 3/4 in the middle of the innings. Special mention must go to Alex Turner for his 7/43 off 28 overs - A fantastic effort.

The Third XI had a match to forget against Taylors Lakes at Albion being bowled out for 81 on day one. The hosts then amassed 9/201dec before giving the Snowdogs a major scare taking 5/36 off 34 overs.

The 4th XI hosted the RMIT first team in a one day match at St.Bernards on the Hilbert Oval at St.Bernards and batting first were bowled out for 83 which was chased down with ease by RMIT on their way to 7/157 at stumps.

A disappointing round of cricket for the Snowdogs, the challenge now is to bounce back from four losses. Some key in's for the 1st XI should see stronger XI's filter

4TH XI HAT-TRICK FOR VETERAN GREG COOK

Coming back after a solid opening spell Greg Cook continued where he left off bowling to the middle order of Greenvale.
Greg’s first wicket was to a ball pitched just short of a length outside off stump, the ball cut off the seam and caught the inside of the bat and was played onto the stumps.
The new batsman has come in and with confidence faced up a metre out of his crease, seeing this, Cookie has thrown the ball wide and with the ball cleanly taken by the wicket keeper Blake Manassa, the batsman did not have enough time to get back to his crease before he was out stumped.
With the arrival of the next batsman it was business as usual for Cookie, he went back to his mark, thought about the ball he was going to bowl, and with a ball pitched perfectly on off stump Cookie swung the ball back into the batsman and with enough movement through the air clean bowled the batsman middle stump.
