VALE HARRY OVERMAN

St Bernard’s Old Collegians Cricket club is mourning the tragic loss of Harry Overman who passed away this week.
Harry played Junior and Senior Cricket with our Club since under 12’s before dedicating himself to developing into the best footballer that he could be going on to win the SBOCFC U19 and competition wide B&F in 2010.
He played Junior Cricket in the morning and Senior Cricket in the afternoon then was often seen practicing in the nets after play alongside his brother Tom and other close Snowdog mates.
He had a breakout season in 2008/09 when as a 15 yr old, after playing in the juniors on Saturday made a 100 in the Senior Competition on the Sunday followed by a score of 87 a few weeks later. He no doubt would have gone on to represent our club in the first XI but unfortunately for us, Football was Harry’s main love.
Harry’s energy, smile, dedication and big heart will be sadly missed around the St Bernard’s community.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Mick, Kerry, Tom, Will and Sarah and the extended Overman family who have been a large part of the St Bernard’s Old Collegians club since formation.

SBOCCC Bowling Coach - Dean Solomon

It is with great pleasure that we welcome back to the club in a formal capacity Dean Solomon in the role of bowling coach.

We have a number of exciting bowling prospects within both the Junior and Senior teams that will benefit from the technical knowledge and passion for the Club that Dean will pass onto them.

From winning the JP Mitchell Most Promising Award in 1984/85, Dean went on to win 3 Beau Redmond Club Championships, a PJ Mitchell Best Clubman award in 1982/83. Dean led the bowling attach at the club during the mid 1980’s into the mid 1990’s.

Dean played over 234 games for St Bernard’s taking a club record 465 wickets and played in 3 premierships including taking 7/56 in 85/86 GF and was awarded Life Membership.

Dean has committed to be at the club as much as he can during training and we both welcome him back and thank him for his commitment

AGM & SEASON LAUNCH A SUCCESS

The 2012/13 campaign is officially underway, with the AGM and season launch being held Monday night at the St.Bernards pavilion. The night was a good chance for many to meet new coach Romain Grenville as well as the selection of the new committee for the upcoming season. Anthony Jordan, as planned, stepped down from his role as President after 5 years to allow more time with him family and give greater attention to his business ventures.

Replacing Anthony will be 200 game legend Jason Bourke, who showed on Monday night he will give a new fresh approach to the job with a clear vision of where he see's the club heading in the years to come under his reign - following on from the brilliant position Anthony has left the club in.

Simon Cave and Michael Thom have filled the vacant Vice-Presidency roles while Tom Isaacs and Terry Davis will again fill their roles as Secretary and Treasurer, as will Duncan Hefter as Junior Co-Ordinator. Returning to the committee are Kevin O'Connell, Luke Davis, Jordan Mills, Brendan Davey, Tristan Kassis, Sinclair Johansen.

The committee would like to welcome two new comers in Nick Serrano and Patrick O'Connell. It is fantastic to see people willing to give up their time and show their commitment to the club as we strive to become a power house in Senior Division.

CLUB HONORS FOR ANTHONY JORDAN AND ANDRE NOONAN

AT Monday nights' AGM, the club voted to induct two legends as Life Members, It is with great pleasure to report that outgoing President Anthony Jordan, and club legend Andre Noonan are now St.Bernards Old Collegians Cricket Club life members. Combined these two legends have 6 premierships, over 370 games and over 40 years experience - as ratified by the club Monday night both are now worthy Life Members of our great club.

Anthony, our retiring President of the last 5 years, could be referred to as representing all that our club would like to promote. He is a St Bernard’s Old Boy, long standing committee representative and has played over 220 senior games as a player.
Anthony has spent close to 20 years on the committee. In this time, he has been a long standing Secretary, only stopping this role due to overseas travel and his ascendancy to the Presidency for the last 5 seasons.
Anthony’s on field contribution to our club is considerable – he has won first XI and Second XI playing awards, Captained both the first and second XI sides and is a three times premiership player at 2nd XI level including captaincy in his first year as club President and making a solid contribution to our first XI premiership in 08/09, assisting a largely young side develop with determination, sound preparation and on field leadership.
Anthony's contribution across the club during his years is equalled by few.

Andre has been involved in our club since 1989/90 season and developed into a proficient player at First and Second XI level over a 20 years period only halting intermittently whilst living interstate and at the arrival of children. A past committee member and a long time contributor off field, his efforts in promoting and supporting our club have been significant.
Andre has played over 150 games, won two premierships at second XI level, played in the two losing grand finals including the First XI grand final in 07/08, long held the highest score and won both bowling and batting awards at first and second XI levels.
Andre’s contribution to the club has extended beyond playing in his efforts to support our international players over the last few years – a commitment that has enabled our club to recruit highly skilled players offering the ability to financially support their cricket ambitions whilst playing for our club. This has involved significant financial support to these players along with an opportunity for these people to gain skills for a future career.
Life membership recognises Andre's contribution to our club over a long period of time.

Well done to both clubmen.

NATHAN HAWKES SIGNS ON FOR 2012-13

Nathan Hawkes, the 2010/2011 season Beau Redmond Medal winner and VTCA team of the year representative is returning from England for another season with the Snowdogs. Nathan was the clubs number one target in the off season as one of our international players and will again offer us much needed stability at the top of the batting order and leadership both on and off the field. Since his last season here Nathan has overcome some injury concerns and is excited about the prospect of playing for the Snowdogs once again this coming season.

In his previous season at the club Nathan made 492 runs @ 44.73 with one century and four fifties. We look forward Nathan being a part of our club once again this season.
