ROUND 4 ENDS WITH NO RESULTS

Well another week played (not played in this case) and another week marred by rain. We can forget the second week and concentrate on the good performances posted by the club in week 1 of round 4.
The club was greeted to sunny conditions at the beginning of round 4 with all 4 teams putting in some solid performances.  Club President Anthony Jordan recaptured his youth and led the way with an outstanding 114 in the 3rds, showing both the body and mind still have what it takes to perform.  He was well supported by junior representative Max Jaggard who posted another good performance with the bat making 37. Good batting and application saw the 3’s make a formidable 268. The clubs batting prowess was also on display in the 4’s making 229 in their game. Patty Moloney got the ball rolling opening his account with 41, backed up by the evergreen veteran John Jordan with 56 and partner in crime Phil Conlon with 47. Some good starts here with only John Jordan reaching the 50 milestone.
The ones lost the toss (again…., cheers Oz) and were made to bowl to South Caulfield. Some brilliant bowling on display here with Gerard McMahon taking 3/26, Tristan Kassis 3/44 and Luke Davis 2/39. Excellent fielding (for the most part) and tight bowling saw South Caulfield post 180 on the board after been bundled out on the last ball of the day. (you guessed it, C.Osborne!) The two’s made the pilgrimage down to South Caulfield and were sent in to bat. Having just blitzed his VCE exams (we expect 99.90) Patrick O’Connell opened and offered stiff resistance with a well-made 31. He was ably supported by 5th cousin Kev O’Connell with a hard fought 26. Sadly for the two’s things didn’t get much better, with captain Mick Thom getting started but not going on with the job for 18. In the end the twos reached 119 and had their backs against the wall. Luckily the rain came.

With the washouts over the weekend the games only get bigger for the snowdogs heading into Christmas. Make sure we all get to training this week

SNOWDOGS OPEN UP T20 WITH A WIN

St Bernard’s 5/130
Lowe 38
Mills 29

Altona North 8/119
L.Davis 3/22

A Overcast Tuesday night lead the snowdogs to Crofts Reserve in Altona North. The much anticipated fixture did not seam to affect the squad, as it was calm in the rooms prior to the first ball. As the last team member arrived at 5.20 Tommy wristy’s heart sank as he would not be required to field. Chris Spinella in turn won the toss and put us into bat. As Simon Cave continued to play and miss in the first over it was a sublime on drive which was smoked to the boundary by J-Lo which lifted the spirits of the side. The pair continued to work the run rate over and after five overs we were none for 31. Simon Cave was the first to go on 15 off 24 balls with a strike rate of 62.5 not ideal for the 20/20 format, but in saying that looked solid as an opening batsmen.

This Brought Nick Linton to the crease and he looked in good touch, Lowe was the next to go after a great innings of 38 off 31 balls with a strike rate of 122.6 Nick Linton then controversially played a reverse sweep for four. Which took him up to 15 a Brad Hadden like charge down the pitch saw Nick hit his Helmet with the bat and was given out caught behind, was a bit of a lol as he came complaining off the ground.

Chris Spinella added a very quick 14, then came Tristan “picket fence” Kassis and Jordan Mills. As the name suggests Tristan was no danger of hitting the ball out of the ring with eight singles to his name, Mills was hitting the ball to the boundary at will, Tristan was looking good working the ball around the ring until he was controversy run out. That brought Ozzie to the crease and there was no messing around the running between the wickets improved immensely. Jordan ended his innings with 29 off 20 balls with a strike rate of 145. Ozzie was next to go in the last over and DOC and balls O’Connell and Anthony Jordan ended the innings with red ink. A good First innings total of 130 was posted and the team looked forward to spending 20 overs in the field.

The new rock was handed to Tristan Kassis and he bowled a tight line but was slapped around the ground by shutty eyes hitty hard. Spaz thought long and hard who his next opener would be and a masterstroke had him handing the ball to ozzie, who bowled many a many darts and continued to trouble the batsmen. Both bowlers had two overs and Tristan had gone for 19 while ozzie went for 5, a super pick up from the son of Dragon slayer Daniel O’Connell had him launch the ball over the stumps and Lowe’s gloves did the rest with a fantastic run out to start the wicket tally. J.Mills and Roudy were next to bowl both shutting down the runs with Millsy’s 3 overs going for 8 and Roudy taking 3 for 22 of four overs with spaz taking some tough catches at mid off, Kassis was being heckled in the field but silenced the critics with a sharp run out,

Ozzie came back on and finished his four overs for 1-12, then D.O’Connell bowled two overs 1-18 and James Riley 3 overs 1-19 a super effort from the young pups. Then Tristan Finished his four overs 0-41. A super start to the 20/20 fixture with St Bernard’s winning the game by 12 runs. We look forward to next weeks game on Murphy Oval against Sedddon.

JORDO TONS UP AS 3'S PILE ON THE RUNS

Anthony Jordan led a very young 3's attack on Day 1 against East Keilor away. Having been sent into bat the 3rds managed to amass 268 runs on a great day for batting. Leading from the front was Anthony Jordan. Making his first snowdogs century since 1993, the club president amassed 114 opening the batting (and in front of his newly born Willow at her first match watching dad) was a delight for the young team to see. He batted for a majority of the innings, not only ensuring we made a great score but teaching the young brigade whilst he was out there. He was supported well by Wade (18) and year 9 Max Jaggard (37) who showed he has a great cricketing future! Good day by the boys and hopefully we can get the win next week and remain undefeated!

SATURDAY BRINGS 3 WINS

Tom Chrystie after his 59(57)  in the 2ndXI
IT was a successful round 3 for the Snowdogs with the 1st, 2nd and 3rd XI sides all recording strong victories.
The 1stXI travelled to the struggling Williamstown where a new look batting line-up managed to battle their way to the score of 176. St.Bernards newest Bert and Ernie live-in couple, Jordan Lowe and Jordan Mills were the best of the batsmen with 60 and 38 respectively. Williamstown came out firing in week two with some stiff top order resistance before Anthony Jordan changed the game with what is being described as the best catch the club has seen - setting off a collapse for the home side being all out for 142. Skipper Craig Osborne was the best of the bowlers with 5/32, well supported by Luke Davis with 3/38.
Mick Thom's pups hosted the Williamstown 2nd XI going into the match with one of the youngest sides seen in a higher XI for some time - an average of just 19! Bowling first after a rain delay the pups toiled hard all day with much reward, eventually bowling the visitors out for 111 early on day 2. James Riley was the pick of the bowlers with the incredible figures of 4/18 off 17 overs. The run chase got off to a shaky start losing 2/11 before Kev and Pat O'Connell steadies the ship putting a 69 run partnership to all but finish off Williamstown. Pat falling for 40 off 87, while Kev played a poor shot to be dismissed for 37 off 92. Captain Mick Thom continued his good form making a quick fire 50, while Dan O'Connell was again in the runs making 45 and 2nd gamer Tom Chrystie made 59 off 57, all large contributors in the score of 9-272 off 74 overs.
The Third XI had a dominant win at home against Flemington, batting first they made 9/231(cc) after another Travis Carrick onslaught, falling 9 runs short of his 4th century, making 91 he was well supported by captain Brendan Davey(60) and Josh Dunell (26*). In response Flemington were only able to be all out for 146. Josh Dunell, Trav Carrick and Lachy Wade all taking two wickets each.

A good weekend for the club with some big matches for all XI's in the coming weeks
