SNOWDOGS OPEN UP T20 WITH A WIN

St Bernard’s 5/130
Lowe 38
Mills 29

Altona North 8/119
L.Davis 3/22

A Overcast Tuesday night lead the snowdogs to Crofts Reserve in Altona North. The much anticipated fixture did not seam to affect the squad, as it was calm in the rooms prior to the first ball. As the last team member arrived at 5.20 Tommy wristy’s heart sank as he would not be required to field. Chris Spinella in turn won the toss and put us into bat. As Simon Cave continued to play and miss in the first over it was a sublime on drive which was smoked to the boundary by J-Lo which lifted the spirits of the side. The pair continued to work the run rate over and after five overs we were none for 31. Simon Cave was the first to go on 15 off 24 balls with a strike rate of 62.5 not ideal for the 20/20 format, but in saying that looked solid as an opening batsmen.

This Brought Nick Linton to the crease and he looked in good touch, Lowe was the next to go after a great innings of 38 off 31 balls with a strike rate of 122.6 Nick Linton then controversially played a reverse sweep for four. Which took him up to 15 a Brad Hadden like charge down the pitch saw Nick hit his Helmet with the bat and was given out caught behind, was a bit of a lol as he came complaining off the ground.

Chris Spinella added a very quick 14, then came Tristan “picket fence” Kassis and Jordan Mills. As the name suggests Tristan was no danger of hitting the ball out of the ring with eight singles to his name, Mills was hitting the ball to the boundary at will, Tristan was looking good working the ball around the ring until he was controversy run out. That brought Ozzie to the crease and there was no messing around the running between the wickets improved immensely. Jordan ended his innings with 29 off 20 balls with a strike rate of 145. Ozzie was next to go in the last over and DOC and balls O’Connell and Anthony Jordan ended the innings with red ink. A good First innings total of 130 was posted and the team looked forward to spending 20 overs in the field.

The new rock was handed to Tristan Kassis and he bowled a tight line but was slapped around the ground by shutty eyes hitty hard. Spaz thought long and hard who his next opener would be and a masterstroke had him handing the ball to ozzie, who bowled many a many darts and continued to trouble the batsmen. Both bowlers had two overs and Tristan had gone for 19 while ozzie went for 5, a super pick up from the son of Dragon slayer Daniel O’Connell had him launch the ball over the stumps and Lowe’s gloves did the rest with a fantastic run out to start the wicket tally. J.Mills and Roudy were next to bowl both shutting down the runs with Millsy’s 3 overs going for 8 and Roudy taking 3 for 22 of four overs with spaz taking some tough catches at mid off, Kassis was being heckled in the field but silenced the critics with a sharp run out,

Ozzie came back on and finished his four overs for 1-12, then D.O’Connell bowled two overs 1-18 and James Riley 3 overs 1-19 a super effort from the young pups. Then Tristan Finished his four overs 0-41. A super start to the 20/20 fixture with St Bernard’s winning the game by 12 runs. We look forward to next weeks game on Murphy Oval against Sedddon.
