Round 8 Review

It was disappointing round for all teams concerned with St Bernard’s OCCC suffering 4 defeats. A few teams, mainly the second’s and fourth’s were from winnable positions. The 1st’s were set a sizeable total after restricting against Airport West to 258. Luke Davis and Nick Serrano on his 1st’s debut for a few years were the pick of the bowlers taking 2 apiece. The run chase began badly with the pitch causing some concerns due to it being wet. After crumbling to a meager 76 in the first dig and again 4 for 68 in the second there wasn’t much to note with regards to batting performances.
The seconds were at home after making 191 the first week with some very good performance namely Kev O’Connell and third cousin Dan O’Connell making 68 and 50 respectively. This crucial partnership provided some much needed stability after some early cheap wickets. Brad Cooper Chimed in for a well compiled 29. It was a shame the two’s couldn’t capitalize on such a good position with Airport West chasing down the runs. Dan O’Connell and Greg Garth led the way with 2 wickets each.
The third’s and fourths suffered a similar fate being bundled out for 132 and 73 respectively. Sean Hefter with 31 and Brendan Davey with 19 were the only standouts with the bat. Jack gay back from a lengthy hiatus grabbed 2 wickets as did Josh Dunnell. With youth and experience on their side, the fourth eleven couldn’t manage to reel in 164 set by Taylors Lakes. Jake Jones with 20 runs and Patty Moloney grabbed 2 for 27 from his spell.
With four losses the club has much to do if a finals berth is to happen. Batting appears to be the weakness with some low scores made. The one’s fighting to stave off relegation and other teams hoping to make the final 4, it is going to be an interesting few weeks
