STORMS SEND DOGS SEASON DOWN THE DRAIN

The St.Bernards OCCC 2009/10 season over after the freak storms that hit Melbourne over the weekend. With none of the 3 teams who made the finals finishing in the top 2 a win was the only way to advance to the grand final. The 2nd XI were able to face 21 overs on Saturday crumbling to 6/35 before rain stopped play. A total of 7 overs were bowled on day 1 in the thirds as Hoppers managed 0/21 off 7 overs, While the 4th XI bowled 20 overs at Greenvale before the biggest storm to ever hit St.Bernards stopped play for the rest of the weekend. The thrid XI were the only side able to get play underway on day 2, and got off to a good start before allowing the Hoppers middle order to get the total to 158. With fading light and storms on the way the thirds also crumbled to 7/64 before umpires called play off due to rain.

3 OUT OF 5 IN PUPS SEMI FINALS

The junior section of the club had a successful weekend, with 3 out of the 5 sides in the finals progressing to their respective grand finals. The Under 12 A’s had a great win reaching 6/162 and then restricting the opposition Moonee Valley to 4/97. The Under 12 C’s had an amazing win. After their opposition Westmeadows made 2/112, the boys scored the winnings runs on the last ball of the day, finishing up at 7/113. The Under 12 F’s unfortunately were beaten by Strathmore by 9 wickets. They were bowled out for 63 and Strathmore made the runs 1 wicket down. The 14 A’s, who finished on top of the ladder, have progressed to the grand final with a win over Moonee Valley. Our boys batted first and made 160 and then managed to restrict their opposition to 9/134. The Under 16 B’s ended their season very disappointingly. After winning the toss the boys batted first and no one was able to occupy the crease for an extended period of time, being bowled out for 76, with extras top scoring. Hadfield then managed to chase down the runs for the loss of one wicket.

With a number of talented 16’s finishing up their junior careers, it would be great to see all of those boys that are finished back at the Home Of Cricket next season to play seniors. Positive seasons for all junior sides and let’s hope that all 3 sides in the grand final are successful.

TIM RAFFLE MAKES 1ST XI DEBUT

Tim Raffle made his first XI debut this weekend making him the 2nd player to do so in two weeks. It was a baptism of fire for Raffle who came into the side for a must win clash against Spottswood. Batting at 8 and needing quick runs Tim manged 7 runs, with his first runs being a 4 down the ground. Click here to see tims first runs.

HISTORIC DAY AT ST.BERNARDS

Up until Saturday the SBOCCC had never won a senior division, going into day 2 0/130, and a 24 run lead the goal was always going to be to secure an ouright win. Bernards went on to make 7/247 dec. with Duncan Snell making a marvelous 134 opening the batting, well supported by Chris Spinella who made 75. Bernards then bowled Spotty out for 102. The 2nd XI had a very good win at Spottswood, winning by 93 runs. The Third XI had to work hard for their 59 run win against East Keilor, making it 5 wins from their last 6 games. The 4th XI weren't able to keep their unbeaten season alive, going down to East Keilor by 3 wickets.

CRICKETERS WIN 2020 AGAINST FOOTBALLERS

The cricketers have won the 4th annual SBOCCC V SBOCFC Australia Day eve 2020 match. The match was a very comptetitive affair, with some big shots played by both teams. Duncan Snell was the best for the Cricketers with 46, while many of the match Tom Godsell smashed 66 off 35 balls.

JACK GAY TO MAKE 1ST XI DEBUT

17 year old young gun Jack Gay will make his 1st XI debut this week. It is a tremendous effort for a player so young to be making his 1st XI debut in the highest grade possible of the VTCA. Jack has strung together strong performances opening the bowling in the 2nd XI this year and has worked his was into the side. Good luck Jack!

SPAZ SKIPPER OF VTCA UNDER 21s

Congratulations from all Snowdogs go to 1sts wicketkeeper / batsman Chris Spinella who has not only been selected in the VTCA North Under 21s squad for a series of representative matches, but who has also been named as Captain.

This is a fine reward for Chris who has had an outstanding start to the season, making 226 runs in 3 matches so far, as well as displaying his usual fine keeping skills behind the stumps.  It is also great recognition for St Bernard's in the VTCA to have the Captain of this squad from our club.

The first Under 21 match is on this Sunday 22 November, 11.30am at Windy Hill.  Get down and support Spaz in action if you have the chance.  There are two other Under 21 games on Sundays coming up, one at Keilor and the other at Arden Street.  Good luck Spaz!
